However, the Doberman remains a popular dog in civil society still maintaining skills that once favored him as a dog, so highly valued by security forces. Currently this breed has lost that popularity and it is not as common as before to see these dogs in divisions of the armed forces. They were trained to serve as a police dogs and in the army. In past decades, the Doberman Pinscher was very popular as a guardian and protection dog. It is not known with certainty which breeds were involved in the creation of the Doberman Pinscher, but many assume that "butcher dogs" similar to the Rottweiler, were used in this mixing. Dobermann was a tax collector who also worked part-time capturing dogs for kennels.īecause he had to move around different places which were not necessarily safe, Dobermann decided to create a dog breed that was able to protect him and at the same time remain attached to people. The creator of this breed Friederich Louis Dobermann was born on January 1834. Amazing what panting does. This breed has a relatively recent origin.

I will note on the head in this pic: It actually looks good, though overall smaller than I'd like. It also can have the long, arched look sometimes.

  • I like the thickness of the neck here.
  • Chest too shallow – not reaching the elbow.
  • Topline takes an upward turn just before about 1/2 way toward the back.
  • This, while he was supposed to be increasing in weight!! Now he is 2 1/2 years old and has just recently achieved 70 lbs. – before he dropped in weight well into the 60s.

I like his separated "kiss mark" or "clown mark" on cheek.īelow: Aged 9 months, 2 weeks: A strange side-note here: This appears to be when he was about 70 lbs., or even his pinnacle of 72 lbs. I do fairly well like his marking coloration – fairly rich rust.Eyes too round and not deeply enough set (this is maybe my biggest beef with him, and he has actually bumped the semi-bulging eyes on things, which is antithetical to being an effective working dog).Looks downsnouted in this pic, as he sometimes does.SNIPEY! Lack of underjaw (in fact, his lower – and upper – canines are actually shorter in length than what I've ever seen in a Dobe. And of course it is yet another bonding/ training experience to share with your dog.Īllright, here we go: Ever hear that Bible verse that says like "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone?" I assessed a Dobe or two, now, I give you Oji. Obvisiously great for someone interested in learning more. I think the 2 venues I mentioned are wonderful because you handle your own dog which will teach you more about conformation than watching someone else. Nothing against AKC but it is definitely a more competitive venue. At any rate, both venues are great places for newbies to learn all about the show world in a less harsh environment. Like UKC or IABCA for example which I don't understand because in most cases it's the same judges so go figure. In the AKC circles not much value is put on other venues. Remember there is no perfect dog and IMHO, judges are looking for the least amount of faults or the faults that are the least offensive. I think someone that knows what they are talking about needs to get their hands on a dog to give you a true elvaluaton. We can all offer our opinions but pictures are deceiving. They are usually offered by someone in the know like a handler, breeder or even a judge. First find a local club and see if they offer conformation classes.
